The Gironde Estuary, 75 kilometers long and 12 kilometers wide at its mouth, is the largest in Western Europe, covering an area of 635 km2. The Gironde Estuary has a rich history thanks to the importance of maritime trade, which has greatly developed. The influence of the port of Bordeaux was for a long time proven and attracted many boats. Even today, the Gironde allows the passage of many ships including the huge ship used to transport the wings of the Airbus A380.
